Consciousness, awakening, mindfulness and the age of Aquarius - opening of your Anja chakra (third eye) awakening and listening to music of certain magical Hertz frequencies - along with your meditation and yoga sessions all adhere to self improvement and a better understanding of who YOU are, complementing your path of spiritual and self-growth.
What if you could fast forward your road to the better you?
Possible? Could be..
Back in 2005 I found myself, almost metaphorically, and more so literally, studying Clinical Hypnosis with the London College of Clinical Hypnotherapy on their diploma course, this was after I met a clinical hypnotherapist whom very creatively helped me focus my attentions on better piloting and eventually joined his self-hypnosis course at Regents Park College [yes you can self hypnotise yourself]. Actually hypnosis is a naturally occurring phenomena - when we drift off to sleep or start our journey of gaining consciousness when we awake from sleep we go through stages of hypnosis called hypnagogic (falling asleep) and hypnopompic (waking up) these are scientific terms relating to hallucinations, which are in fact collectively known as hypnagogia, the transitional state of consciousness during sleep onset, when alpha waves are decreasing but haven't reached the first stage of sleep, and vice versa.
Other times of natural hypnosis can easily be seen in yourself or others, have you been on a train or a bus, where people stare off into the distance in a trance like state, or maybe you've seen dancers, actors, musicians so in flow that nothing else exists to them, there in are in a hypnotic state, have you driven home and missed your turning?
Driving on autopilot - Yep you've been in an hypnotic state..
Now here it gets very interesting, so your subconscious is the part of your brain that has been engaged and running the show - The conscious part of your mind has taken time out, which is roughly 10% of your onboard personal computer - imagine an iceberg - the 10% part that you can see sticking out of the water represents your analytical, rational thinking part of your brain, whilst the 90% hidden submerged is in fact the subconscious - this is where you store your true personality along with your habits, your Id also live here.
It does an amazing job that the other 10%, your consciousness mind couldn't handle at all..
Your autonomous mind regulates, blood, balance, learned skills all those things that you can do without actively thinking about them.. It all makes sense right..
So if you wanted to improve yourself in some way or manner, loose a habit or get better at learning something, then you need to take a lift directly down to the subconscious mind for it to stick.
This is where hypnosis and the state of hypnagogia come into play.
A hypnotherapist is in fact a guide, a therapist that guides you into a state of deep relaxation, where the state of hypnosis can be obtained, so they can give you a pre agreed suggestion(s) - limiting the number of suggestions works best.
Using various techniques they help you relax, and whilst you relax you are given prompts and visualisations to take you deeper and deeper then ultimately the suggestions - sometimes taking you so deep that time expands or contracts beyond your realisation, what felt like 15 minutes could be in fact be more like an hour of hypnotherapy.
It's fascinating to know how strong the mind is, we can practically change our mindset - and our mind psychology (Neuroplasticity) through thought alone - it's been scientifically proven that meditation and deep learning does this too.
But to enable yourself to go into hypnosis and give yourself suggestions to help aid a better you is indeed a direct method that is in my humble opinion a far quicker and more direct solution that meditating, which I also do regularly for an entirely different reason - which I will explain - Imagine your consciousness was a sky - Meditation allows me to step back and see my thoughts as if they were clouds in the sky, creating ever larger gaps between the clouds - The term monkey-mind would be an overcast sky without any gaps between the clouds - thus you have no opportunity to step back. One must remember that you are not your thoughts - everyone has ridiculous thoughts and if you acted on all of those the consequences would be dire.
So the more pause between thoughts the more you can control yourself, this goes to with emotions, so not reacting to an impulse, a sudden reaction due to an interaction allows us to become more stable humans.
I think you are starting to understand why I am writing this..
So you are probably thinking how do I do this self-hypnosis? Or perhaps you're skeptical - and understandably so. For many, their only exposure to hypnosis has been through entertainment shows where stage hypnotists appear to make audience members dance around like quaking ducks or perform other amusing antics. This creates a fundamental misunderstanding of what hypnosis truly is.
Clinical hypnosis and self-hypnosis are worlds apart from these theatrical performances. Stage hypnotists rely heavily on participant selection (choosing naturally suggestible and outgoing volunteers), social pressure, and the power of expectation. They're skilled entertainers who understand crowd psychology rather than practitioners of therapeutic hypnosis.
In contrast, self-hypnosis is a deeply personal, controlled experience where you remain completely aware throughout. It's more akin to a focused meditative state than the "mind control" portrayed in popular media. The process involves guiding yourself into a receptive, relaxed state where your own suggestions can take root in your subconscious. Unlike stage performances, nothing happens against your will or awareness - you're simply accessing a natural state that allows for positive mental reprogramming.
You probably know that professional sports people are now being trained by sports psychologists to mentally think through what they are going to do when they are in the act of actively playing their sport - it's almost like the mind doesn't know the difference between actioned thought and reality - this this preparation creates certain Neuroplasticity - new synapsis paths which can bring greater focus.
Think of an F1 driver, he'll mentally drive that track, imagining every line he'll take, braking, overtaking, building in a stoic and winning mindset - this goes towards creating that winning edge.
Do this with hypnosis and it seats even deeper in your psyche.
Next I am going to give you a simple self hypnosis script to simply make you feel more vital, happier with an ever more grateful and positive demeanour using progressive relaxation, visualisation and positive suggestions.
Enjoy the process and repeat often.
Self-Hypnosis Script: Growing Vitality and Positive Energy
Preparation
Find a quiet place where you won't be disturbed for at least 20 minutes. Turn off notifications on your devices. Wear comfortable clothing and ensure the room temperature is pleasant.
Induction
You can record this and play it back to yourself
Begin by lying down comfortably on your back, with your arms resting gently at your sides, palms facing upward. Close your eyes and take a deep breath in through your nose... hold it for a moment... and then exhale fully through your mouth.
Take another deep breath in... hold... and release, feeling your body beginning to relax.
And a third deep breath in... hold... and as you exhale, allow your body to settle more deeply into the surface beneath you.
Now, bring your awareness to your toes. Feel the sensation in your toes and say to yourself, "My toes are now completely relaxed." Feel any tension melting away from your toes.
Move your attention to your feet and ankles. Notice any sensations there, and as you breathe out, say to yourself, "My feet and ankles are now completely relaxed." Feel them becoming heavy and comfortable.
Now focus on your calves. As you breathe out, say, "My calves are now completely relaxed." Feel the muscles loosening and releasing any tension they may have been holding.
Continue moving up to your knees and thighs. "My knees and thighs are now completely relaxed." Feel the larger muscles of your legs becoming soft and heavy.
Bring your awareness to your hips and pelvis. "My hips and pelvis are now completely relaxed." Feel your lower body sinking comfortably into the surface beneath you.
Focus on your abdomen and lower back. "My abdomen and lower back are now completely relaxed." Feel your breathing becoming deeper and more natural.
Move to your chest and upper back. "My chest and upper back are now completely relaxed." Feel your breathing becoming even more comfortable and effortless.
Now your shoulders and neck. "My shoulders and neck are now completely relaxed." Feel any tension you've been carrying here dissolving away completely.
Focus on your arms, from your shoulders down to your fingertips. "My arms, hands, and fingers are now completely relaxed." Feel them becoming heavy and warm.
Finally, bring your awareness to your face and head. "My face, scalp, and entire head are now completely relaxed." Feel the muscles of your face softening - your jaw unclenching, your forehead smoothing, your eyes resting gently.
Your entire body is now deeply relaxed, comfortable, and at ease.
Deepening
In your mind's eye, imagine a beautiful staircase with ten steps leading downward. At the bottom of these steps is a place of extraordinary beauty and peace - a sanctuary created just for you.
As you stand at the top of the staircase, take a deep breath and prepare to descend, knowing that with each step down, you'll enter a deeper, more peaceful state of relaxation.
Taking the first step down... number 10... feeling yourself becoming twice as relaxed as you were before.
Step 9... going deeper now, feeling more peaceful and calm.
Step 8... with each breath, you sink deeper into this wonderful relaxed state.
Step 7... halfway down now, feeling your mind becoming quieter and more focused.
Step 6... each step down brings you deeper into this peaceful hypnotic state.
Step 5... halfway down now, your mind becoming clear and receptive.
Step 4... moving deeper still, feeling wonderfully at ease.
Step 3... almost there, feeling a profound sense of tranquility washing over you.
Step 2... nearly at your special place, feeling a deep sense of anticipation.
Step 1... and now you've arrived at the bottom of the staircase.
Special Place Visualisation
Before you is your special place of beauty and tranquility. Look around and notice all the details. Perhaps it's a peaceful garden, a serene beach, a mountain vista, or a cozy room with a warm fire. Whatever feels most nurturing and peaceful to you.
Take in the colours around you... notice the shapes and textures... listen to the soothing sounds in this place... feel the perfect temperature on your skin... perhaps there are pleasant scents in the air...
This is your sanctuary - a place where you are completely safe, accepted, and at peace. A place where healing and positive change naturally occur. Take a moment to fully arrive here, knowing you can return any time you wish.
Positive Suggestions
Now that you're in this receptive state, in this beautiful place, your mind is open to positive suggestions that will benefit your wellbeing. Listen closely as each suggestion takes root in your subconscious mind:
"Every day, my mental and physical vitality grows stronger and stronger."
"My body is filled with vibrant energy that flows to every cell, bringing health and renewal."
"I am grateful for this moment and for all the blessings in my life, both large and small."
"Gratitude flows through me easily and naturally, brightening my perspective on life."
"With each breath I take, positive thoughts fill my mind, displacing any negativity."
"I choose happiness in each moment, knowing it is always available to me."
"My positive demeanour grows stronger and more natural every day."
"I radiate positive energy that uplifts both myself and those around me."
"My mind and body work in perfect harmony to create vibrant health and wellbeing."
"I am becoming more resilient, more vital, and more positive with each passing day."
"These positive changes are becoming permanent parts of who I am."
"I am transforming into my best self - vital, grateful, happy, and positive."
Pause for a moment and feel these suggestions integrating into your being, becoming part of who you are.
Deepening the Suggestions
Now, imagine a warm, golden light beginning to form at the centre of your chest. With each breath, this light grows brighter and expands throughout your body.
This is the light of vitality and positive energy - see it flowing through your veins, into every organ, every muscle, every cell of your body. Feel its warmth and power revitalising you from within.
As this golden light fills you completely, feel a profound sense of gratitude washing over you. Gratitude for your body, your mind, your life experiences, and all the people who have touched your life.
See this golden light now extending beyond your physical body, creating a glowing aura around you. This is your positive demeanour that others can sense when they're near you.
Know that this golden light of vitality, gratitude, and positivity is always within you. You can access it anytime by turning your awareness inward and connecting with your inner resources.
Return
It's now time to return to your normal waking consciousness, bringing all these positive suggestions with you.
I'll count from 1 to 5, and with each number, you'll become more alert and awake, while maintaining the deep sense of peace and the positive suggestions you've received.
1... Beginning to become aware of your surroundings again.
2... Feeling energy returning to your body. Wiggle your fingers and toes gently.
3... Bringing the feelings of vitality, gratitude, and positivity with you as you return.
4... Almost fully awake now, taking a deep refreshing breath.
5... Eyes open, fully alert, feeling wonderfully refreshed, energised, and positive.
Regular Practice
For best results, practise this self-hypnosis daily for at least two weeks. You'll notice the suggestions becoming stronger and more effective with each session. You may record this script in your own voice or simply read through it slowly before beginning.
Remember that self-hypnosis is a skill that improves with practice. Be patient with yourself and enjoy the process of positive transformation.
